• COURSE DESCRIPTION: Cosmetology is a 2 year program that covers all topics to achieve New York State licensing. Attendance is extremely important, since 1,000 hours are needed in order to be eligible to take the New York written and practical exam.

     

    JUNIOR YEAR: perfect attendance 405 hours

    SENIOR YEAR: perfect attendance 405 hours                     TOTAL   810 HOURS

     

    There is Option 95 during the summer for juniors to attend between their junior and senior year. Student must provide their own transportation and there is a fee for attending the 95 hours during the month of July.

     

    After senior year any remaining hours can be made up at our adult educational program at our Potter Road Center in West Seneca. There is a fee for additional hours.

     

    COURSE ACTIVITIES:

    Approximately 1/3, (34%) of the classroom hours are devoted to attaining related theory information. These consist of lecture, demonstration, textbook assignments, regular testing, and portfolio assignments.

    Approximately 2/3, (66%) of the classroom hours are devoted to skill practice. Students will practice learned skills on each other, mannequins, or on other volunteers. A final exam will be given in both theory and skilled work.

     

    FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

    Kit: Students must purchase a cosmetology kit, which cost around $125.00.

    Uniform: All students must wear, black smock with sleeves, which may be purchased at Sally’s, Cosmo Prof, or A & A Beauty. Black dress pants or skirt with socks, panty hose, or tights. Solid black shoes with a low heel, high in step, closed toes and closed back shoe are also required. ( No canvas shoes).

    Supplies: 3 ringed notebook, lined paper, pen, and pencil.

     

    GRADING

    A daily grade is given based on the following:

     

    PREPARED WITH:

    Attendance, full uniform, attitude, tools, participation, notebooks, lined paper, pen, pencil, textbook, workbooks, performance, portfolio.
    Lab grade will be given for hands on skills on manikins or models.

     

    During the senior year of cosmetology, students will be expected to provide services to customers in a salon setting. Public clinic is two days per week from October - May.
